Major construction starts at Scarborough Subway Extension’s Scarborough Centre Station.

Sept. 8 - Metrolinx has broken ground at Scarborough Centre Station, the first of three new subway stations being built as part of the Scarborough Subway Extension.

The Scarborough Subway Extension will extend the TTC’s Line 2 subway service 7.8 km from Kennedy Station, with stations at Lawrence Avenue East and McCowan Road, Scarborough Centre and the terminal station north of Highway 401 at Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road.

This centrally located station will bring rapid transit directly to the heart of Scarborough, accommodating more than 10,000 riders and 7,000 transfers during rush hour and unlocking access to nearly 26,000 jobs in the area.

The new transit hub will offer connections to the GO Transit bus network and the planned Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit network and deliver a new bus terminal and passenger pick-up and drop-off area, improving access to local TTC bus routes.

Scarborough Centre station will connect nearly 30,000 students and staff who commute to Centennial College’s Progress Campus and the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus every day, bringing more reliable and convenient transit access to east Toronto.
