The best fall activities that are easy to get to on transit
Autumn fun is a short train or bus ride away.
Sep 13, 2024
Summer is winding down but that doesn’t mean the fun has to. It’s easier and more affordable than ever to enjoy seasonal fall adventures with GO Transit, PRESTO and One Fare. While our summer seasonal service to the Toronto Zoo and Canada’s Wonderland has ended for the year, getting to these fun attractions is still only a PRESTO tap away.
Connect to the TTC from Rouge Hill GO Station on weekends to get to the Toronto Zoo. And for Wonderland, especially if you’re attending the annual Halloween Haunt, take the Barrie Line to Rutherford GO Station and connect to York Region Transit. And with One Fare, you’ll only have to pay once when transferring between transit systems.
Seasonal sports
Fancy a ball game? Or maybe soccer is more your speed? How about football? No matter your sporting preference, there’s a PRESTO Perk with your name on it.
- Toronto Blue JaysTM fans can use the promo code PRESTO2024 to save on tickets for games up to September 29.
- Soccer fans can save 20 per cent off Toronto FC games using the promo code PRESTOTFC, up until October 5.
- Still craving more? You can also save up to 30 per cent on Forge FC games at Tim Horton’s field using 24PRESTO until October 12.
- Football fans can also save on Hamilton Tiger Cats games. If you’re more of an Argos supporter, use PRESTOARGOS to save 20 per cent off ticket prices until October 5.
Events and expos to end the year
The cooler weather is also a great time to spend time indoors and spruce up your home. The Fall Home Show takes place every year at the Enercare Centre. Special combo tickets are available, providing admission and round trip GO Transit travel to Exhibition Station.
Then, while you’re in the city, you might want to take in a play at the Mirvish Theatre. With PRESTO Perks, you can save up to 50 per cent on select shows.
Nearby nature
We’re big proponents of sustainability and enjoying the best nature has to offer. There’s no shortage of beautiful parks just a short commute away, especially as the leaves put on their brilliant autumn colours.
But there are other ways to experience the joys of nature too. Picking your own seasonal produce is a great way to spend a day with the family, on a date or with some friends. Bowmanville’s Watson Farm is just a GO Bus ride away from Durham College GO Station.
But you can find harvest-season experiences closer to the city, too. From Union Station, connect to the TTC’s Broadview Station and take the free shuttle bus to Evergreen Brick Works for weekly farmer’s markets, artisan vendors and more. Or get off at TTC’s College Station from Union Station and take a short streetcar or bus trip to Riverdale Farm to get up close with rare wildlife, gardens and more across its three hectares.
Another great option close to home is the Royal Botanical Gardens, a short bus ride away from Burlington GO Station. Show your PRESTO card to save 15 per cent off adult general admission, just in time for the seasonal Great Pumpkin Trail in October. (Special ticket required.)
Saving money with GO
On top of PRESTO Perks, One Fare and free rides for kids 12 and under, there are even more ways to save on the GO.
Seniors 65 and up save 55 per cent when using their PRESTO card.
One-Day Weekend Passes give you unlimited travel across the GO Network for a day on Saturdays, Sundays and some holidays for just $10.
Weekday Group Passes offer the same benefits for 2 to 5 people on Mondays through Fridays at an affordable flat rate.
Passes must be purchased online and cannot be obtained via PRESTO or at a station. You can buy them up to 7 days in advance. Remember to activate your pass 5 minutes prior to travel.
Adventure doesn’t have to break the bank, and we’re there to help you and your family enjoy the best of the season, and the region.
