Take part in Rail Safety Week with Metrolinx
Keeping the rail network safe for everyone is top of mind for us year-round.
Sep 20, 2024
From September 23 to 29, Metrolinx will be partnering with Operation Lifesaver for Rail Safety Week, to raise awareness about rail safety and help reduce preventable incidents on the network.
This year marks the 21st anniversary of Rail Safety Week and we’re reminding customers, there is no ‘undo’ button. Always be safe and alert on platforms and near tracks even if no trains are present.
For us, safety isn't just a week-long focus – it's embedded in everything we do – during Rail Safety Week, you might see us at your station talking about the work we do to keep the network safe for everyone. Our community engagement and safety teams will be out and about educating the public on safety standards and practices when it comes to platform safety, rail crossings, and bikes on trains.
Join us by taking an active role in promoting safety both on and off the tracks, helping to keep customers, staff, and communities safe across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Safety at your fingertips
We’re highlighting several safety initiatives aimed at giving customers the tools they need to stay safe.
- Text 'HELP' to 77777
Our text-for-help service allows you to communicate in real-time with a Customer Protective Services (CPS) dispatcher if you witness or experience a safety concern. CPS will reply within 90 seconds and can dispatch support or connect you with local police services.
- Reporting unsafe content online
In response to the unfortunate rise of dangerous transit videos circulating on social media, we are partnering with Operation Lifesaver and Railway Association of Canada to call on rail safety partners and their followers to report and flag any videos that display dangerous behaviour near tracks. No photo, video, or selfie is worth the risk. If you see something, say something. Report any dangerous transit videos you see online. Less videos, less copycats. More lives saved. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
