On June 6, 2015, the first UP Express train went into service, connecting Union Station to Toronto Pearson Airport just in time for the 2015 Pan American Games. 

North America's first dedicated express air-rail link 

UP Express connects the busiest transportation hubs in Canada, offering riders a stress-free and fast journey with 15-minute service frequency. It was, at the time of its launch, the first dedicated express air-rail link service in North America. 

In the first year of operation alone, UP Express removed approximately 1.2 million car trips from roads across the region. 

This brand-new train transformed the way people travel between downtown Toronto and the airport. 

Creating a customer-first experience 

The new service was designed with riders top of mind. The details of the design and the details of the experience are very customer-centric. 

To meet the needs of airport travellers, UP Express trains offer level boarding, luggage racks, overhead storage bins, power outlets, seat trays and free Wi-Fi.  

Celebrating 10 years in service 

After three years of construction, UP Express launched in June 2015. 

A decade later, it has become an integral part of transit in Toronto, having served more than 26 million passengers. As of May 2025, UP Express continues to be rated No. 1 in Toronto Transportation by Tripadvisor travellers.
