September 8 and 9 Service Reductions

TORONTO: September 5, 2018 – Metrolinx is committed to getting people moving better, faster and easier. As part of that commitment and to ensure safety, critical bridge upgrades are being done this weekend on the Lakeshore West Line and necessary platform work is being done on the Lakeshore East line. Signal upgrades at Union Station will also affect UP Express service this weekend.

By reducing service on the weekend when there are fewer customers, we will get this work done faster and more efficiently. There will be extra staff on-hand to direct customers where to go and to help them reach their destination safely.

For GO Train customers, there will be hourly service along both Lakeshore lines this weekend (Sept. 8-9) and no train service to/from Mimico GO Station.

Along Lakeshore West, Metrolinx will begin repairing and replacing six century-old bridges between Mimico and Exhibition GO stations.

As a result of this work, Lakeshore West GO trains will not serve stations east of Long Branch GO Station. Customers travelling to and from Exhibition will have to transfer trains at Union Station. Customers who regularly use Mimico GO Station are encouraged to use Long Branch GO or the TTC as an alternative.

Along Lakeshore East, platform work at Guildwood GO Station will result in hourly service between Union Station and Oshawa GO Station. Travel times for both Lakeshore lines are expected to run 10-15 minutes longer.

For UP Express riders, trains will operate every half hour this weekend. Customers should also plan ahead, travel times will be increased by as much as 15 minutes.
