Discount coming for GO Transit/UP Express & TTC Customers

TORONTO: October 6, 2017 – GO Transit/UP Express and TTC customers who transfer between both transit agencies received some good news today.

TTC fares for those combining GO Transit/UP Express and the TTC for their travels will now be eligible for a discount, making it easier for GTHA residents to choose transit and help manage congestion in our region.

This discount would mean customers transferring between the TTC and GO Transit/UP Express, and vice versa, would receive a 50% discount off the $3.00 TTC adult PRESTO fare. More details will be coming in the next few weeks, but in the meantime, if you haven’t switched to PRESTO, now is a good time to get a card as the discount is available exclusively on PRESTO. It is just another way PRESTO is making travelling across the region more convenient and seamless.

The agreement to implement these discounts will be brought before Toronto City Council and the Toronto Transit Commission later this month for ratification. Once approved, these discounts would take effect in early January 2018.

On September 14, Leslie Woo, Chief Planning Officer at Metrolinx, provided an update on fare integration, where the goal is to integrate fare systems across the region’s 11 different transit agencies. She listed a number of steps that could be implemented in the immediate future to ensure progress continues on advancing fare integration, including securing GO/UP/TTC transfer discounts.

“This discount is an important first step in breaking down barriers to fare integration across the network, making it easier and more convenient to take transit,” said Phil Verster, President & CEO, Metrolinx.
