It’s big. It’s bold. It’s a commitment to a higher quality of life, a thriving and sustainable environment and a strong, prosperous economy.

Through our Regional Transportation Plan called “The Big Move”, we’re launching a strategic, long-term vision for coordinated transportation across the entire Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

It’s a plan that puts more value on moving people and goods, than on moving vehicles. The plan offers more choices to more people through reliable, convenient and fast transit, safer bikeways and pedestrian walkways, less congested roads, and a more efficient way to move goods and services.

This will drastically improve how we live, work, do business and stay active. And, with $11.5 billion in funding committed from the province, we’re already rolling out some big moves.

THE VISION

…The distance we drive every day will drop by ONE-THIRD
…We will have access to SIX times more bike lanes and trails
…ONE in FIVE of us will walk or cycle to where we have to go
…ALL transit vehicles will be accessible
…We will use a single, integrated fare card for ALL transit trips
…Our emissions from passenger transportation will be cut in HALF

WHERE IS THE BIG MOVE HAPPENING?

Today, more than six million people live and work in Canada’s largest urban region: The Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). By the year 2031, that number will jump to 8.6 million. That’s a lot of commuters travelling to get to work, school and play. We’re working with multiple municipalities, transit agencies and governments to build more than 1,200 kilometres of new rapid transit lines that will get you where you need to go faster and more conveniently, whether you live in Hamilton, Toronto or the regions of Durham, Halton, Peel and York.
