Metrolinx’s strategic regional transportation plan, The Big Move, has 10 specific strategies to meet its goals. Strategy #6 is “Implement an Integrated Transit Fare System”. With 9 transit agencies in the GTHA, each with their own fare structure, riders travelling across the region have in the past had to use multiple different methods of fare payment for a single trip.
PRESTO provides transit customers with greater convenience, savings and security PRESTO will, within the next few years, be the preferred means for convenient, seamless and efficient transit fare payment for both riders and our Ontario municipal transit partners. By 2016, more than 2.5 million Ontario riders will subscribe to PRESTO. We are on track to meet our goal.
