Metrolinx Warns PRESTO Customers Not to Buy Cards From Unauthorized Outlets

TORONTO: August 19, 2016 – Metrolinx would like to advise our customers of PRESTO cards being sold from unauthorized websites.

The scheme involves selling registered PRESTO cards for a reduced price via online marketplaces, only for the customer to be left with a PRESTO card with no balance. When the fraudster verifies the amount on the balance checker with the customer, the funds are withdrawn shortly after - leaving the customer with a zero balance PRESTO card.

The safety and security of our system is a top priority for Metrolinx and we want to remind customers to beware of any offers from sources other than authorized PRESTO retailers and bear in mind some PRESTO card security tips:

- Only purchase PRESTO cards online at prestocard.ca or in person at authorized customer service outlets listed on the PRESTO website

- Never purchase a PRESTO card from online auction websites.

- Do not purchase a used PRESTO card from another person.

- Register your card online to protect the money in your account in case your card is ever lost or stolen.

- If your PRESTO card is lost or stolen, report it immediately. A registered card can be blocked from use to protect the balance and transfer it to a replacement card.

- If you suspect fraud, notify your local police.
