Roger Anderson, Chair, Durham Region

Roger Anderson was born in Scarborough and has been a resident of Ajax since the age of 14. He worked in his father's real estate office after completing school, and joined the Durham Regional Police in 1978, where he served as a police constable until 1988. In 1992, he formed his own real estate company, Re/Max Quality One, in Ajax, which now employs 40 people.
Anderson was first elected as a Councillor in Ajax from 1985 to 1988. He sat on the Hydro Commission from 1988 to 1991. From 1991 to 1997, he served as Regional Councillor and Deputy Mayor for the Town of Ajax. He has been Chairman of the Region of Durham since December 1997 and Chair of Durham Region Transit Commission since its inception on January 1, 2006.
Anderson served as President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario from 2004 to 2006 and continues on the board in the role of Immediate Past President. He sits on the Provincial/Municipal Fiscal and Service Delivery Review Committee and is a member of the board of directors of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. He was also a director on the GO Transit Board from 1997 to 2006. He co-chairs, with Mayor David Miller, the Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton Mayors and Chairs Group.
Anderson is on the board of Junior Achievement of Durham Region. As chairman of Durham Region, he is also a member of all regional standing committees and of the Durham Regional Police Services Board. | |
