On February 14, 2001 the Governor General of Canada announced the appointment of Peter R. Smith as a Member of the Order of Canada, effective November 15, 2000.
Since 1989, Peter R. Smith has been President and Co-owner of Andrin Limited, a large developer/builder of housing in Canada, building under the label Andrin Homes. He previously held many positions with the Regional Municipality of Peel including Senior Planner, Director of Housing and from 1983 to 1989, Commissioner of Housing for the Regional Municipality of Peel and General Manager of Peel Non-Profit Housing Corporation, one of the largest municipal housing corporations in Canada.
Smith was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), September 6, 1995 and re-appointed September 6, 2002. Smith is currently Chairman of the Board of GO Transit; a member of the Board of Directors of TARION Warranty Corporation; member of the Board of the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation; Chairman of the Board of GeoGlobal Resources Inc; and serves as Director of Brampton Brick Limited and the Social Housing Services Corporation. He is a member of the Greater Toronto Home Builders' Association and the Urban Development Institute (UDI/Ontario).
Smith holds a Master's Degree in Political Science (Public Policy) from the State University of New York, and an Honours B.A. History and Political Science, Dean's Honour List, McMaster University. Smith and his family live in Mississauga, Ontario. | |
